Top 9 Bucketlist Solo Travel Destinations

Solo travel has become increasingly popular over the past few years, and it’s easy to find out why. You can travel at your own pace, do the activities you want to do, and this is a great way to make new friends around the world.

Alyssa, our Founder, has traveled solo and documented her epic adventures on Instagram and shared travel tips and tricks at My Life’s A Travel Movie for several years now.

When you see all the amazing places he explored, especially his 30 epic adventures before 30, it’s almost a natural reaction to pack your bags and explore the world alone (AKA, living your best life).

If that is not enough to convince you, the trend report of the 2018 Adventure Travel Trade Association specifically highlights that solo travel is on the rise, with one of their members reporting that more than 80% of millennial travelers will do solos.

Of course, solo travel is more than a millennium. A 2018 survey of single travelers found that around 60% of single visitors were 55 years and over, with around 75% of single travelers being female.

With all that in mind, and the fact that we just entered the new year (AKA is the best time to take risks and do something interesting for you), we have collected 19 top solo tourist destinations in 2019.

Read on to find out what this goal is! Don’t forget to also look at these solo travel safety tips before you go on the adventure of the next epic solo trip.

Solo Travel Destination 1: Horseshoe Dam

AKA, one of the most epic and Instagram places that can be visited in U.S.
Why not spoil yourself with a solo trip to Arizona and Utah? In addition to seeing Horseshoe Bend, you will also be able to see other amazing places like The Grand Canyon, Havasu Falls, Antelope Canyon and Antelope Island!

If you feel very brave, you can even camp alone on Antelope Island!

Solo Travel Destination 2: Egyptian Pyramid

Culture, history, and seeing the original wonders of the world – what is disliked from Egypt ?!
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to take a solo trip to Egypt and be safe, including for solo female travelers.
The main way to get around Egypt as a single traveler is to book a tour. This is a great way to see all the most popular sites safely like the Sphinx, Great Pyramids, Luxor, Abu Symbel, Hurghada, Nile and the Red Sea.

Want to know more about how to take a solo trip in Egypt? Look at this post, where Alyssa details which tour company to use, and how to see all the best sights in a week and cheap.

Solo Travel Destination 3: Petra, Jordan

Petra, a beautiful ancient city that happens to be one of 7 new world wonders and makes you channel your inner Indiana Jones!
It’s easy to plan a solo trip to Petra safely so you can take advantage of the amazing ancient architecture. Petra is full of travelers so you can even make your fellow solo travel companions while you’re there!

In addition, if you have time, you can go to nearby tourist attractions such as the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum (desert area where you can take a hot air balloon ride) and Aqaba (for amazing diving).

Solo Travel Destinations 4: Great Wall of China

One must see anyone who likes to travel, loves history, or just wants to admire one of the 7 new wonders of the world.

If you are a single traveler who also likes to get epic photos, you might want to avoid joining a tour group to see the Great Wall. Instead, follow the tips in this post to help you get a very impressive experience, and get photos without anyone else in them!

If you also want to avoid visa hassles, why not try to use the 72-hour visa-free rule for China. This may not be a long trip, but you will definitely have enough time to check out the Great Wall and places like downtown Beijing,

Solo Travel Destination 5: Rajasthan, India

If you want to travel solo like a Kingdom, then Rajasthan is the place for you!
Full of amazing castles and fortresses that you can see and live in, Rajasthan is definitely a sight to see. Plus, you can walk between areas where maharaas and real-life maharaans are still alive today, and riding camels across smooth desert dunes, aka, living your best solo journey!

Solo 6 Travel Destinations: Chefchaouen, Morocco

That’s right, you can take a solo trip through Morocco, be sure to follow these important safety tips.
Once you are there, you will be able to see the amazing markets and riad, and head to Chefchaouen – a beautiful blue city.

Solo Travel Destination 7: Iceland

Apparently, Iceland is the perfect place to travel alone. Fun fact – it was Alyssa’s first solo trip!
There are so many incredible sights to see in Iceland, it might be difficult to find out here to start. So why not try touring around the South Coast of Iceland? You will see some extraordinary natural scenery from nature, including volcanoes, waterfalls, beaches and beautiful flower fields.

Solo Travel Destination 8: Easter Island, Polynesia

The road to stumbling solo around Easter Island sounds like a single traveler’s dream come true! Not only will you see the famous (and extraordinary) statue of Moai, you will be able to learn all about the history and culture of the Island from the local Rapa Nui people.

Pro tips: locals are more likely to answer your questions when you are on the island as a single traveler, compared to people who are there as journalists in “official business”.

Travel Destinations Solo 9: Iguazu Waterfall

The name “Iguazu” means “Great Water” and the waterfall is so large that it marks the border between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay! So what are you waiting for, pack your bags and see this amazing waterfall as soon as possible!
